A wrench is thrown into their well laid plans when the band discovers that the Black Cauldron has already been stolen from Arawn. Taran and Ellidyr hate each other right from the start, but they are commanded to work together under Adaon’s command.

Among these is the famous King Morgant, a young man named Adaon with a magic brooch and the power of prophetic dreams, and a proud Prince named Ellidyr. In the end, Prince Gwydion manages to slay the Horned King, but he was only a pawn in the plans of the wicked King Arawn.īook Two “The Black Cauldron” opens up with Prince Gwydion calling together a council of heroes together so they may steal back the Black Cauldron and stop the creation of more Cauldron-born. On the way, Taran is constantly pursued by the deathless Cauldron-born soldiers the bodies of dead men that have been revived by the Black Cauldron and drained of their humanity. So Taran goes on a quest to bring her back and on the way meets an assortment of characters: the brave hero Prince Gwydion, the young princess Eilonwy, a lovable but cowardly creature named Gurgi and a bard named Fflewddur Flam. She flees the county of Caer Dallben in fear when the Horned King- a monster with bloodstained arms and wears an antlered mask made of a human skull- and his army come seeking her. Taran is an assistant keeper of a very special pig named Hen-Wen she has the power to see the future. In the first book “The Book of Three”, we meet our protagonist. The film is based on the first two books in the series and that alone is a step in the wrong direction. Why? Because this movie was so underwhelming in every way, it got me wondering what it was about the original stories that made Disney go, “Yep, this needs to be our next movie”.
